The Wales fly-half sustained a knee injury in the Scarlets' 35-27 victory over Benetton Treviso last Saturday.
A precautionary scan has been scheduled for Wednesday but the Scarlets are confident the damage is only minor and he should be fit for the Six Nations opener against England on February 4.
"The region's medical team have re-assessed Jones today and stated that early signs indicate he has a minor knee ligament strain," the club confirmed. "The injury will probably keep him out of action for up to four weeks."
The news will be welcomed by Wales coach Warren Gatland, who is already missing Shane Williams and George North for the start of the Six Nations.
Both wingers are struggling with shoulder injuries and Gatland could ill-afford to lose another member of his first-choice backline.
Scarlets and Wales skipper Matthew Rees will undergo a fitness test on his groin strain later this week to see if he will be available to face Treviso on Saturday.

Georgia edge Bulgaria in Tbilisi - Aug 29, 2010 (by Eurobasket News)
Georgia - Bulgaria 94:83

Georgia overcame Bulgaria on the final day of the EuroBasket Qualifying Round. The victory however had a bitter aftertaste, as it proved insufficient for Georgia to directly qualify for EuroBasket. They clinched the second place in Group D at 5-3 record. Bulgaria finished in the third position at 4-4. Both teams will have another shot at EuroBasket when they take part at the Additional Qualifying Round next summer.
Georgia led right from the start in this one. Viktor Sanikidze (203-F-86) knocked down 9 points in the first quarter as Georgia built a 24:19 lead. Filip Videnov (196-F/G-80, agency: Interperformances, college: W.Kentucky) and Kostov tipped off the second stanza with back-to-back three-pointers as Bulgaria surged ahead. The teams exchanged baskets for some time before Bulgaria went on a 13:2 run and grabbed a 48:41 lead at halftime. But Georgia replied with a 13:2 rally of their own at the start of the second half and jumped back in charge. Gamqrelidze soon opened a double-digit advantage for the home team. They stayed in charge and finished the third stanza leading by five points 73:68. A 9:0 start to the fourth term allowed Georgia to clear off. They kept Bulgaria at distance throughout the fourth quarter and rolled to a confident win at the end.
Viktor Sanikidze tallied 27 points and 11 boards for Georgia. Zaza Pachulia (212-C-84) added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Manuchar Markoishvili (195-G-86) provided 14 points in the win. Earl Calloway (191-G-83, college: Indiana) replied with 17 points for Bulgaria. Kaloyan Ivanov (205-F-86) had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
